Experiments in 360° panoramic Stereoscopic 3D video

There has been an increased interest of using head mounted displays (HMD) like the Oculus Rift to immerse the user into virtual reality (VR). For the immersion into VR to be complete, 3D is needed. I will be discussing various aspects of 3D panoramic images and video, the hardware setup I am using, the process I am using to get  my final result, various methods of viewing 3D, the difference between what I have achieved and the ideal result. I will also present some possibilities.

Michael Kintner, CEO/Inventor at 360Heros Inc. will present 360CamMan™ 360 video file management software – the missing link in 360 video workflow.  360Heros manufactures and sells multiple 360 video 360 plug-n-play holders holding from 6 to 14 cameras and as you can imagine file and data management with 14 cameras is even more of a challenge.  Especially when it comes to 3D 360 video content.   On the IVRPA conference Michael will present the different holders for standard 360 video and also the new patent pending holders for 3D 360 video content.

The Oculus Rift buyout by Facebook is not something that happens by mistake, it happens because a huge new market is up ahead.

In this talk Alexandre Jenny will share his insight about this new market. He will also give details about all the tools that are being produced at Kolor to be able to get to a mature workflow, from hardware to recording up to the final service of publishing and hosting these immersive videos.

2014 saw a big step forward in the world of virtual tour creation with the release of Panotour Pro 2.0 from Kolor. HTML5 has become a standard feature, with virtual tours compatible with any modern device (smartphones, tablets, computers).

Fulldome Immersion – Capturing and Creating Content for the Dome

Matthew Mascheri, President of Dome3D, will present an introduction to the immersive world of fulldome content creation.  Domes theaters present audiences with an unparalleled immersive screen, and while primarily used in an educational setting, domes (both portable and fixed) are beginning to be used as an artistic and commercial venue.

The Full 360º Video Workflow

Post-processing starts with preproduction

To produce a professional 360º video piece follows similar steps as a traditional film production, and deviates from it in new and to be explored ways. Joergen Geerds from Freedom360 will outline the different steps in his presentation: from script writing to storyboarding, selecting the right equipment to shoot a scene and capture good sound, directing and pre-visualisation, stitching the raw material into a good source for editing in Adobe Premiere or AfterEffects to follow the story outline, as well as preparing the final edit for the various media or screens it will be deployed to.

The Polar Sea – A 360° Documentary Shot in the Arctic
